Neymar is all set to leave PSG this summer. The Brazilian has decided to leave the French club after six years of joining. Unsurprisingly, it has been a long time coming after a series of terrible treatments by the ultras. They showed up at his house after Paris got knocked out of the Round of 16 of the Champions League. Similar to what happened outside Lionel Messi‘s house which prompted him to leave PSG for Inter Miami.
Besides all players have alleged that the club isn’t doing enough to protect them. The PSG fans have a reputation for doing things that could be of potential harm to their players. Therefore, Neymar has decided to leave. He has apparently had talks with Premier League club Chelsea for a move.
Former PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino currently is employed by the London club and wouldn’t mind working with the Brazilian again. Even though last season was marred by injuries, Neymar still managed to score 18 goals and provide 17 assists in just 29 appearances. However, he has struggled with injuries throughout his career at the French club.
Further, this limited his chances of helping his team win the Champions League or start a legitimate battle for Ballon D’or. A move to Chelsea would not help with that as they didn’t qualify for any European competitions this season. However, with Neymar in the team, their creativity would heavily improve helping them score more goals. This could possibly help them get top 4 this season.
Neymar’s career at PSG
Contrary to popular opinion, Neymar has not flopped at PSG. He never lived up to the expectations. But labeling him as a bad signing would be way too harsh looking at his stats. In his first season at PSG, he scored 28 goals and provided another 16 assists in just 30 appearances. However, a metatarsal fracture cut his season short after which they were eliminated from the Champions League by eventual champions Real Madrid.
In the second season too he put up similar numbers scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists but again had problems with injuries. The French club were sent home by Manchester United in the Champions League. The 19/20 season was the only one where he could complete the Champions League campaign without injuries, leading his team into the final. However, they lost the game to Bayern Munich 1-0.
They have never again managed to reach that stage and have been eliminated twice in the Round of 16. But Neymar’s PSG stats in which he has 195 goal contributions in just 177 games, shows that had he been luckier with injuries, the story could have gone different with the club.
