Chelsea set to meet Brighton’s Graham Potter for head coach position later this week: Reports

Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea has quickly adapted to life without Thomas Tuchel, and Brighton boss Graham Potter already appears to be the front-runner to succeed him at Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter’s potential replacement for Thomas Tuchel has received approval from Brighton and Hove Albion, with the club’s new ownership group willing to pay the rumored £10 million release clause in Potter’s contract.

Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino, according to sources, are the front-runners in what appears to be a swift managerial hiring process. Anthony Barry is now in position to take over at Craven Cottage on Saturday, and Toddy Boehly is eager to appoint the new manager as quickly as possible.

All of this comes after the club revealed on Wednesday morning that they had fired the Champions League-winning coach. This decision was made in light of events that had been developing behind the scenes as well as the team’s loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

According to Chelsea’s statement:

“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with head coach Thomas Tuchel. “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

According to sources, Chelsea may have to spend up to £10 million to get Potter out of his Brighton contract. But it hasn’t deterred the ownership group of the Blues, who showed this summer that they are not afraid to spend a lot of money if a target is thought to be the right one.

According to sources, Potter and his group are en route to London to review the specifics of the deal before a choice is made on his behalf. The former Ostersunds and Swansea boss previously turned down offers from teams like Everton and Tottenham.
