Chelsea to bring back club legend as interim manager ahead of Champions League clash against Real Madrid
Frank Lampard might be reappointed as the Chelsea boss in an interim basis

According to reports, Chelsea is going to see the third manager in the dugout this season as the management is looking to appoint Frank Lampard in an interim role. Club legend Lampard was fired from the role earlier in 2021 after just over a year in charge. The club is going to face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League later this month.
The role is reported to be till the end of the season till they find the best-suited manager. Frank Lampard is among the myriads of high-profile managers who are free at the moment. However, it is understood that Lampard is aware of the demands and ethos of the club and is a clear fan favourite. Despite the fact that his reign didn’t see any success, the management might be compelled to think he ticks all the boxes in the role of an interim boss who can do the job.
The Stamford Bridge residents are clearly beating about the bush this season when it comes to taking managerial calls. After relieving Graham Potter after just seven months, his assistant Bruno Saltor was assigned the role of an interim manager. However, things didn’t go exactly to plan as the Blues looked toothless against a heavily weakened Liverpool on Wednesday.
This has probably prompted the move to bring in Lampard. Lampard is currently a free agent after his stint at Everton came to an end earlier this year.
Is Lampard the right answer to the Chelsea management question?

A bonafide club legend, Lampard is synonymous with Chelsea. He has been the biggest part of Chelsea’s success under the Roman Abrahamovic era. This was the reason behind his appointment as the manager back in 2019.
During his tenure, Chelsea played an attacking brand of football using 4-3-3 as a base formation. Lampard managed to win 44 of his 84 games in charge for Chelsea, losing 25 and drawing 15. Whether Lampard is the right man to lead the club right now, can be argued.
The case for Frank Lampard

During his first tenure, Lampard oversaw a transfer ban which meant he had to choose players from the youth ranks. But this time, Lampard has the tools to make it click.
The current Chelsea roster has players who would thrive in the 4-3-3 system. The system allows the attacking players to express themselves without worry. Players like Mikhaylo Mudryk, Joao Felix, Kai Havertz, and Raheem Sterling will surely enjoy the freedom. Enzo Fernandes and Kante will also provide a proper base to the midfield with both brain and brawn.
Lampard is one of the most successful players in the history of the club. This will earn him the respect of the players in the Blues lineup, something Potter struggled with.
However, the most important point is, Chelsea is struggling to score goals right now. The Blues have scored just 29 goals this term, the fourth-lowest in the league. During Lampard’s first full season in charge, they had scored 69 goals. In a total of 85 games, Lampard’s side had an average of 2.04 goals scored for them.
Despite the attacking figures showing promise, Lampard has struggled significantly when it comes to defensive acumen. Both Chelsea and Everton under him have been leaky in defence. If Chelsea think about outscoring their opponents, Lampard might be the perfect fit. But for any other question in the reader’s mind, one simply has to wait and see.
