‘Christ the Redeemer’ shuts off its light in support of Vinicius’ fight against racism in La Liga
The Brazilian Government supported Vinicius Jr in a unique way after the played suffered from racial comments.

The lights on Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro were turned off on Monday. To support Vinicius Jr who recently faced racial comments on Sunday in the match against Valencia.
The Sanctuary that manages the Statue of Christ carried this act with the cooperation of the Brazilian FA and with the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football. In an Instagram post, the body wrote, “The Christ the Redeemer Archdiocesan Sanctuary repudiates the racist attacks suffered by the Brazilian player Vinicius Junior.”
All the countrymen came together with this decision and supported the young Brazilian against racism. Vinicius Jr has not faced such racial comments just on Sunday the player in his entire career has faced many situations where he was racially abused.
In the match against Valencia, the home fans target Vinicius Jr and started shouting ‘monkey-monkey’. The Brazilian winger was choked for a moment by this act of the fans. Vinicius Jr has the support of his teammates and managers. Everybody is standing with the young Brazilian against what he faced. Many players from outside football have raised their voices for the Brazilian.
After the lights were turned off on the Christ statue Vinicius Jr wrote this on Twitter, “Black and imposing. Christ the Redeemer was like this just now. An action of solidarity that moved me. But I want, above all, to inspire and bring more light to our struggle.”

A message from the Brazilian Legend to Vinicius Jr after racism incident in La Liga
After the young winger was targeted with racial comments many players have come to his rescue including the Legend of Brazilian football Ronaldo Nazario.
The former Brazil player wrote on Instagram, “Once again an episode of racism in La Liga. As long as there is impunity, there’ll be racism. Unacceptable that refs, RFEF, and authorities, are left without action and that fans applaud such absurdity. It’s enough. Vini, count on me in your fight. In our fight.”
