Veteran Manchester United wingback Patrice Evra has urged the Glazers to select their preferred takeover bidder before the 2023/24 season begins. The legend believes United are lagging behind local rivals Manchester City. The club’s owners revealed in November 2022 that they were looking for further funding. This meant that no options were off the table at that moment, even a full sale.

Since then, the takeover process has been drawn out. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe of Ineos are the two frontrunners to buy the Reds. This month, reports claimed Sheikh Jassim was in charge, but his supporters denied it as “pure speculation.” With United no closer to being sold, supporters and everyone associated with the club are losing patience.

Club legend Patrice Evra is one of those members. He said “We talk about this deal for how many months now? Since November, I think it is important for the fans, for the players and of course for Erik ten Hag. He is the right man [to be manager]. We don’t know who is going to be the new owner. We are already 20 miles back from Manchester City. Now, the question is: Can we stop this circus and find a solution and [have] the owner come as soon as possible? We need to find it now, before the season starts. When the season starts, it is already too late.”

“Do we know which player is going to come? Do we know which player is going to leave? It is unfair for Erik ten Hag. It brings negative energy around the club. The club were already protesting against the Glazers when I signed in 2006, but we hid it because we were winning. I remember the green and yellow shirt and scarf were already at the stadium,” Evra further added.

Zidane Iqbal has completed his move from Manchester United to FC Utrecht in the Netherlands. Iqbal, 20, spent over a decade at Manchester United and appeared on the bench seven times in the Premier League last season. He is Manchester United’s first British-South Asian player.

FC Utrecht has signed Iqbal to a four-year deal. Manchester United has also confirmed the transfer, characterizing it as an ‘undisclosed price’. According to reports, the fee is £860,000, although United might earn more at a later date.

They also have 40% of earnings from Iqbal’s next transfer move owing to the sell-on clause they have put on him. This will be useful for United if they seek to buy him back. No buyback clause has been inserted into his transfer. Zidane leaves United as a trailblazer.
