Chelsea and Manchester City battled it out at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The reigning Premier League champions were given a run for their money as Mauricio Pochettino and his men went neck to neck with Pep Guardiola‘s treble-winning side. Former Manchester City starlet Cole Palmer was at the center of attention as his stoppage-time penalty saw an instant classic come to existence in the Premier League.
His involvement at the penalty spot did not end with that, as the 21-year-old was booked for interfering with the penalty spot. The Chelsea #20 was shown a yellow card by Anthony Taylor as he was trying to scuff the penalty spot before Erling Haaland‘s 25th-minute penalty. However, his efforts were in vain as Haaland made no mistake in finding the net from 12 yards. He scored to the right of the keeper after sending Robert Sanchez the wrong way.
Surprisingly enough, Cole Palmer also scored a crucial penalty from the same spot in the second half. Many fans, especially City supporters took offense at the incident, calling Palmer a traitor and a cheat.
Palmer called time on his career at Manchester City last summer and joined Chelsea on a £42.5 million transfer. He has quickly risen in the ranks and has become a regular starter under Pochettino. He has arguably been one of the best players for Chelsea this season.
Netizens baffled at what Nicolas Jackson did before Cole Palmer’s penalty
Chelsea grabbed a point against Manchester City as Cole Palmer nailed his injury-time penalty past Ederson. The youngster placed the ball out of the Manchester City keeper’s reach to make it 4-4 on the night. Moreover, the 21-year-old’s performance against his former club has raised a lot of eyebrows on social media. As the internet battles out Palmer’s scuffing of the penalty spot, another incident occurred that was not spotted by many.
As the players were in disagreement with Anthony Taylor’s penalty call, Nicolas Jackson and Manchester City star Mateo Kovacic got into an altercation. A video shows the Senegalese striker appearing to shush Kovavic as he tries to complain about the penalty. Ruben Dias brought down Armando Broja in the 93rd minute before Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot.
Cole Palmer coolly dispatched his penalty, giving the game an end it deserved. Chelsea scored 4 goals for the second consecutive game as Manchester City dropped points for the fourth time in their last 10 games. Moreover, Chelsea rise to the top half of the table thanks to Cole Palmer’s penalty. Chelsea are up against Newcastle United, Brighton and Manchester United while City take on Liverpool at the Etihad.
