“Confident enough in myself”: Frenkie de Jong wants to continue in Barcelona amidst rumors of moving to Manchester United

Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong has spoken about how much he liked working with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, but he has been tight-lipped about the possibility of a reunion at Manchester United. The Barcelona midfielder is a top summer transfer priority for United as manager Louis van Gaal seeks to bolster his midfield, although De Jong has voiced a desire to stay at the Nou Camp.
The 25-year-old joined his “dream club” three years ago, but he hasn’t always lived up to expectations, and with Barcelona’s financial woes, a sale might be in the club’s best interests this summer.

Will Frenkie De Jong move to Manchester United this summer?

De Jong, on the other hand, has no intention of abandoning his aim of being a Barcelona success, and a switch to United would be tough given that they can only promise Europa League football.
De Jong, who is presently on international duties with Holland, has claimed that he recently spoke with Xavi about his job at Barcelona and that he understands why he is linked with a move to Manchester United.
“I’m confident enough in myself [to succeed in Barcelona].” I’m not concerned at all. I recently had a long conversation with the coach [Xavi]. That was a really excellent talk.” He told Algemeen Dagblad.
“I’m not going to get into that [the United connections].” There’s no mention of additional names or clubs. I used to be open-minded and naive about it. That is something I no longer do.”
Frenkie realizes that a connection has been established. He would have ‘ liked working with Ten Hag at Ajax – and, of course, he can’t predict the future. But he’d rather stay in Barcelona. ten Hag is looking for a new midfielder this summer since the squad’s midfield has been weakened by the free transfers of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata.
