The Portuguese was booked for protesting the referee’s decision to award a penalty after a lengthy VAR check. However, the home side’s joy was short-lived. Their 13th-minute goal was cancelled by a Marcelo Brozovic goal, followed by an Aymeric Laporte header. Otavio then doubled their lead in the 50th minute from a failed clearance.

Cristiano Ronaldo then clinched his final goal of the year familiarly. The Portuguese leapt the highest to meet a cross from Seko Fofana. His glancing header went past Mailson as Al-Nassr won 4-1 on the night. While his 2023 goal tally rose to 54, Ronaldo finished the year as the top scorer of the Saudi Pro League with 20 goals as well.
