Nothing had gone up to plans for Manchester United last season, they were one of the heavy favorites to compete for the Premier League after finishing second last season, and with the arrival of the blockbuster signing of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and none other than the GOAT Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the season on fire scoring in every half-chance coming his way, but since the arrival of the interim boss, Ralf Rangnick has had a dip in his form.
United established players such as club captain Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, and many others had been heavily criticized for their substandard performances which also eventually lead to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjær and the appointment of Ralf Rangnick which hasn’t been fruitful with United having 58 points after 37 games which is their worst points tally in Premier League era.
Speaking of Cristiano, his stats in every aspect this season are not up to the mark of his usual lofty standards. He is taking lesser shots than usual inside the box and the number of big chances which eventually are created for him is also an all-time low which can be down to United’s performance as a whole.

But a more daunting number is the number of times in was caught offside last seven as compared to other Premier League strikers. In total, Cristiano Ronaldo was flagged offside 33 times which is 7 times more than any other player in the Premier League last season.
It’s quite a hard stat to interpret whether it’s Ronaldo’s timing of runs being incorrect or his teammates being inefficient to match his overlapping runs. Nonetheless, it would provide a little headache to incoming manager Erik ten Hag, whose high pressing system requires his attacker to lead the press from the front which is not a fore of Manchester United striker.
Ronaldo’s leading in this stat could also be down to his fellow teammates not releasing the ball quickly as Manchester United as a whole were dreadful last season. Erik ten Hag has the full pre-season to find the solution to the problems and accelerate Manchester United to fire from all cylinders next season.
