David de Gea, Manchester United’s standout custodian for the last decade, has announced his resignation from the club. De Gea, who joined United in 2011, quickly established himself as a crucial player for the club while also climbing the ladder of one of the finest shot-stoppers of his time. The Spaniard announced his resignation from United, whom he referred to as “the biggest club in the world,” via his official Twitter account.
“I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride everytime I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers,” said the 22/23 Premier League Golden Gove winner.
De Gea made 545 appearances for the Red Devils. He has kept 190 clean sheets for them. During his time at Old Trafford, De Gea won one Premier League title, one Europa League title, and one FA Cup, with two League Cups and three Community Shields.
Regarding his future, De Gea said “Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me. We’ve seen it all.” De Gea joined United as a boy and leaves as a Man.

Manchester United chasing Zion Suzuki as a backup keeper
Manchester United are believed to be close to acquiring Japanese custodian Zion Suzuki for a cost of £5 million. The 20-year-old Urawa Red Diamonds shot-stopper was on United’s watch since 2017. They are now preparing to make him the most pricey signing in J-League history. United is said to have made an official proposal of £5 million for Suzuki.
Suzuki’s price will exceed the £4.5 million Celtic spent for Kyogo Furuhashi in 2021, making Suzuki the most expensive J-League signing. Negotiations between United and Urawa are thought to be going well, implying that a deal is likely. Signing Suzuki is a move that was unexpected by many fans, due to his relatively young career.
Suzuki has played for Japan at many youth levels but has yet to make his senior national team debut. At Urawa Red Diamonds, he has only made five cup appearances, with veteran Shusaku Nishikawa favored as the first-choice custodian. Despite this, he has made a total of eight league appearances. He is likely to serve as United’s backup custodian. Andre Onana is rumored to be United’s keeper next season.
