David de Gea is one of the most decorated shot-stoppers of his generation. He is known for his work with Manchester United and the Spanish National team. Over the years, the player played a pivotal role in the team. De Gea has mostly been in the headlines for his heroics between the post and standout performances. The Spaniard has led a very disciplined life, however, in his teenage days, he got involved in a sexual assault scandal with Athletic Club star Iker Muniain.
De Gea was alleged assault that took place in 2012, in a hotel in Madrid, Spain. Reports suggested that a protected witness in court claimed that De Gea contracted a prostitute against her will.
According to a published report, there were statements from two protected witnesses. A woman alleged that she was forced to have sexual relations with the United goalie and two footballers. One of the footballers was later named Iker Muniain. Later, reports of the local law enforcement also emerged which had De Gea’s name on them. It read, “The encounter was organized by the football player called David de Gea, currently at Manchester United Football Club, who would also be the person who paid for everything that day, as can be seen in a WhatsApp conversation with Muniain.”
The report further stated that the victims were told that they would earn more money if they did whatever they were told to do by the players in question. Although, apparently the players did not pay them after their trysts.
Back then, De Gea reportedly denied all the claims regarding the incident. The goalkeeper back then said that he had nothing to do with the scandal. When asked about the incident, De Gea said, “It’s all lies. I am calm. Few things stop me from being calm. I will train and keep doing what I like. Of course. If anything, I have even more strength. I have had great support from my teammates. I want to play in the Euros. It is false and it is in my lawyers’ hands. I have not thought about leaving France. I was in my room playing on the PlayStation when I was told. The first thing was to warn my family, to make sure they are calm.“
The player further stated that his family knew that it was a false accusation. He said, “The witness can give all the details she likes. This is in my lawyers’ hands. I am very, very calm. I know what I do with my life. It is all false. I have no idea where it comes from and how it came to be in the press. It’s a way of sullying someone’s image. That’s it.”
Later reports came up that suggested that De Gea wasn’t the other player with Muniain, and all of it was a big confusion. So far, the player has had an incredible career at the club. After signing from Atletico Madrid for £25 million, De Gea made 545 appearances for the Red Devils, in which he conceded 590 goals and kept 190 clean sheets. He has the highest number of clean sheets, ahead of Kasper Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.
