Declan Rice has Arsenal fans on cloud nine as his late winner catapults his team 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League. The Englishman’s ‘buzzer-beater’ came in the 97th minute of the game, when the score was tied 3-3. His leaping header from the edge of the penalty area broke Luton’s hearts as Arsenal won their 6th consecutive game in the league.
Arsenal faced Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday. A fixture which many put off as ‘easy’ and ‘unchallenging’ proved to be one of the toughest challenges Arsenal have faced on the road this season. 17th-placed Luton Town went neck-to-neck with the league leaders, forcing a late Declan Rice header to save the visitors. Goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz were also highlights of the match.
Declan Rice’s goal outlined once again why the club spent £105 (100+5 add-ons) million for his services. From Mikel Arteta to club legend Ian Wright, the crowd went berserk after Rice’s stoppage-time header.
He was hailed as the club’s ‘savior’ as the commentator labelled him as “the real deal”. Many are convinced that Rice could very well be the difference for Arsenal in this year’s race for the Premier League.
Fans in cloud nine thanks to the ‘master of late goals’
Declan Rice’s last-minute goal has called for a serious conversation about the player on social media. Fans have hailed him as a ‘savior’ and he is now referred to as the ‘master of late goals’. Rice has only scored 3 goals so far for Arsenal in all competitions this season. However, 2 of those three have come at extremely crucial moments.
His late winner against Manchester United in September came in the 90+6th minute, while his winner against Luton Town was in the 90+7th minute. Subsequently, fans flooded the comments, finding reasons to justify his £100 million price tag. Moreover, labels like ‘signing of the season’ and ‘best Rice in the market’ were some of the other comments. However, some were not impressed and claimed that their celebrations were too much for a win against ‘poor’ Luton Town.
‘Wheaty moment for rice’ read one of the top comments. Even though Arsenal are 5 points clear at the top, people are convinced that they will not win the league. Some made sure to express the same during Arsenal’s moment of jubilation. Ian Wright‘s celebration and Mikel Arteta’s reaction were ‘spammed’ in the comments to signify Arsenal fans’ relief.
