Didier Deschamps and Lionel Scaloni – Who would coach their team towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy?

Both Didier Deschamps and Lionel Scaloni have a certain fluidity in their coaching styles. The two managers’ approach towards the game is very different but their results have been sensational for France and Argentina, respectively. The two countries currently stand amongst the Top 4 in FIFA World rankings. Argentina is 3^rd whereas France stands 4^th.

Didier Deschamps has highlighted the playing style of France in the eyes of the world. Earlier Spain, Italy, and Netherlands were known to have a specific way of playing and perceiving the game. However, the French football is taking its shape. There is no defined term for their way of playing but it certainly is getting then trophies.

Lionel Scaloni took over the Argentine National team in 2018 after Argentina’s heartbreak in the 2018 World Cup. He managed to get past all the odds and with his Talisman Lionel Messi, he lifted the Copa America trophy. The Argentine team got a nickname after their win, ‘La Scaloneta,’ which translated to English means, ‘the Scaloni Bus.’

Each manager has faced one unexpected loss during the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Argentina lost their opening match against Saudi Arabia meanwhile France was thrown under the bus by Tunisia. Argentina has scored 12 goals in their 6 games on the other hand France scored 13 in the same number of games.

Lionel Messi is aiming Argentina’s third World Cup title since the great Diego Maradona lifted the trophy in 1986. However, his Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe stands in his way to equal Pele’s record of winning the first 2 career World Cups consecutively.

If we talk about number of World Cups in the hands of these two exemplary players, Mbappe would have plenty of chances to win the World Cup but Sunday would mark as Messi one last chance to live the dream he dreamt 17 years ago.

Messi answered his retirement speculations, “Yes. Surely yes. There’s a lot of years until the next one and I don’t think I have it in me and finishing like this is best. [I feel] a lot of happiness to be able to achieve this. To finish my World Cup career playing my last game in a final.”

Didier Deschamps and Lionel Scaloni have earned the respect Head Coaches are due but one of them will emerge as the best manager of this World Cup. Deschamps depends upon the strength of his players and Scaloni is motivating his team to make history for their captain, Lionel Messi.
