Amidst all the tense rivalries, Champions League matchday, and fierce title races, the 2024 edition of the ‘Match for Hope’ was a breath of fresh air for the footballing community. The game starred Youtubers, celebrities, and former footballers, with Eden Hazard, IShowSpeed, and Kaka stealing the show.
Former Real Madrid and Chelsea man Eden Hazard had a night to remember against team Aboflah. The Belgian has not had an easy time in the last few weeks, with certain comments made by the player not sitting well with a group of fans. However, he proved just how good professional footballers are even after ‘gaining weight’ and not being on the pitch for quite a while.
The former Chelsea skipper’s electrifying performance against team Aboflah has gone viral on social media. The 33-yeard-old retired from professional football back in October of last year, but left his opponents in the dust and was untouchable throughout the 90 minutes.
Clips of the star dancing past defenders, setting up teammates, and an ‘unreal’ assist to David Villa certainly made fans reminisce of the little man who lit up Stamford Bridge till 2019.
Eden Hazard shares a heartwarming moment with IShowSpeed
Even though the former Belgian International has been on the end of criticism for his recent comments, the ‘Match for Hope’ on Friday made many change their opinion about the #10. Even though Hazard was evidently playing the game in ‘easy’ mode, effortlessly going past defenders, the winger was more focused on setting up his teammates than scoring himself.
The former Madrid man offered an open goal to teammate IShowSpeed after creating a chance from well inside his half. However, the YouTuber missed, much to the disbelief of the supporters, commentators, and Speed himself. In a half-time team talk, the Belgian appeared to console him for the missed opportunity.
I miss chances too!
Hazard said as Speed tried to apologize for his miss.
Subsequently, Hazard also ‘promised’ to set him up by rounding the keeper and laying the ball off to him in the second half. Football Twitter certainly wasn’t expecting Eden Hazard of all people to console Speed in a game of football! The former jokingly added that the two will stay at the ground till midnight if he fails to score, after which the Belgian will catch a flight back home.
