As he recalled the Paris Saint-Germain icon’s statement on the day of Argentina’s Copa America success, Argentinian goalie Emi Martinez said that when Lionel Messi speaks, even Argentina’s president must remain silent and listen.

Messi rallied the squad with a battle cry on that particular day, and Martinez admitted that it gave everybody involved shivers.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper said, “He made a speech saying this was going to be his last one and that he was going to give it his all,” the Aston Villa goalkeeper told Prime Video. “I was like, little shivers, to Messi talking.

“Everyone stops talking.” It doesn’t matter who it is: the manager, the President of Argentina, or anybody else is present. They simply stopped talking.”

Messi has appeared 162 times for Argentina, scoring 86 goals in the process. He has the most appearances in Argentina’s history and is also the nation’s all-time highest goalscorer.

His first international prize came in 2021 when he won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot in Copa America.

Messi, who turns 35 later this month, will captain Argentina in their World Cup group, which includes Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland.
