Erling Haaland beats Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and other Premier League legends to achieve this unique record
The Norwegian is on fire and doesn't seem to slow down

Erling Haaland has become the first-ever Premier League player to score 45 goals in all competitions during a single season. In doing so, he’s overtaken the previous record held by both Ruud van Nistelrooy during the 2002/03 campaign and Mohamed Salah in 2017/18. The 22-year-old Norway striker fired in City’s third in their 3-0 quarter-final first-leg win to reach another landmark in his first season in English football.
That was his 45th goal for Manchester City this season, in just his 39th game, a record for a Premier League player in all competitions. Moving to the Etihad Stadium last summer after two-and-a-half free-scoring seasons at Borussia Dortmund, Haaland instantly reinforced his formidable goalscoring reputation by grabbing nine goals in his first five Premier League outings, more than any other player.
The records have kept on falling for the 22-year-old, who became the first player to net in each of his first four Premier League away games, as well as the first to score hat-tricks in three consecutive matches on home soil. The former Borussia Dortmund player has been called a “monster” and a “robot” for his impressive performance this season.
Haaland is now two behind Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 goals in a 38-game season, set in 2017-18. He has nine Premier League games left to break this record and if City goes all the way in the Champions League and FA Cup he would have another 15 games to score. Manchester City faces Leicester City next on Thursday and Bayern on 20th April in the second leg of the UCL.
How many goals would Erling Haaland have to score each season to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record?

After having an outstanding 2021-22 season with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, Erling Haaland made a sensational move to Premier League giants Manchester City and has proved that he deserves all the hype. He has scored a total of 45 goals in just 39 appearances across competitions this season, which displays the immense skills he possesses. However, he would have to do an uphill task if he ever wants to match or surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible goal tally.
Ronaldo scripted history by becoming the first footballer in history to register a total of 700 goals in football at the club level. He has taken the Saudi League by storm since his move to Al-Nassr scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in just 10 matches. His partnership with Anderson Talisca has pushed the club into challenging for the title three points off the top spot.
Haaland needs to score 40 goals per season until the year 2037 if he ever wants to match Ronaldo’s record. The 22-year-old has scored a total of 201 goals in his club football career so far while playing for teams like City, Dortmund, Molde FK, and Red Bull Salzburg. Given that he is still more than 500 goals away from Ronaldo’s tally, Haaland has to remain in his prime for the next 15 years to take his tally across 700 club goals.
