Real Madrid honoured Vinicius Jr. against Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabeu. It is their first match after the racist shouts of Valencia fans at Mestalla towards the Brazilian.
All the Real players, including the reserves, came out onto the pitch wearing the number 20 shirt as a tribute to the Brazilian attacker, who came down onto the field. They all went to the centre of the ground and clapped with their backs to the main stand. Many Los Blancos fans also gave their support to the winger. Several posters and even a large banner said: “Vinicius somos todos, basta” (We are all Vinicius, enough is enough).
Although the red card he received against Valencia was rescinded, Vinicius Jr. was absent from the match due to knee pain. However, the Brazilian was present at the Bernabeu and was shown on screen during the tributes. In the 20th minute of the first half, another gesture was conducted to support him. This time it was from the fans in the stands, with a session of applause.
During other La Liga matches, like the one between Real Sociedad and Almeria, as well as the Real Valladolid-Barcelona game, a La Liga banner with a message against racism was carried onto the pitch.

Fans react to the gesture

Vinicius Junior has constantly been racially abused during his time in La Liga. During the weekend setback at Valencia, the 22-year-old made headlines. The Brazilian was continually vilified by home fans, causing him to lose his cool and receive a red card. Vinicius has been criticised several times this season and is reportedly red up with the situation.
Vinicius Jr. has grown from strength to strength since showing up at the Santiago Bernabeu six years ago. He has 23 goals and 21 assists in 54 games for Real Madrid this season in all competitions. However, he is routinely booed by opposing crowds. According to reports, the incident against Valencia was the breaking point for the Brazilian.
Sources say the 22-year-old is considering leaving the Santiago Bernabeu to escape the hostility directed at him. Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are rumoured to be keeping an eye on the situation.
