“Mentality king; Well deserved”- Fans jump in joy after Brazil announces Casemiro as new captain of National Football team

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will captain Brazil against Morocco on Saturday night at the Ibn Batouta Stadium. Reports say the United player was chosen for his leadership skills and capacity to guide the squad’s younger players.

Casemiro has captained Brazil eleven times in the past, the most recent being against Ecuador in January of last year. Casemiro’s selection to lead the team reflects his rising status following the departures of veterans such as Dani Alves and Thiago Silva. Casemiro is one of ten Brazilian internationals who competed in the Qatar World Cup.

In the competition’s quarter-finals, a Croatian team led by Luka Modric eliminated the South American nation. Interim Brazil coach Ramon Menezes decided to award Casemiro the armband. The team’s former head coach, Tite, was fired after Croatia knocked them out of the Qatar World Cup. According to reports, Alex Telles, a United loanee, is also set to play against Morocco. He is currently playing for Sevilla, who are two points off the relegation zone.

That Casemiro has been selected to lead his country is not a surprise amongst United fans who are already familiar with his authority and direction, especially in the middle of the park. Casemiro commented on the decision saying: “I know I’m one of the leaders of the group and I have the freedom to speak within the group. Whoever the captain, the leaders, the more experienced have the freedom to speak. Respect on the pitch is earned.” He added: “From my side, I feel ready, I’ve prepared for it and I appreciate the confidence of the technical staff.”

Since his arrival at Old Trafford, Casemiro has revolutionized United’s midfield and added much-needed balance. Erik ten Hag has repeatedly mentioned that the 31-year-old as one of the leaders in the dressing room. Casemiro will miss United’s games against Newcastle, Brentford and Everton after his red card against Southampton.
