“Sell Lionel Messi; Kylian Mbappe must leave”- Fans launch attack on PSG after they get knocked out of Champions League 2022-23
Verratti blunder proves costly for the visitors as both goals came from Veratti giving the ball away
Bayern Munich capitalised on their 1-0 lead from the first leg and won 2-0 on aggregate against PSG, courtesy of two second-half goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry. The Cameroonian gave Bayern the lead after Marco Verratti gave the ball away in his box and Gnabry scored from a fast break, which again, resulted from the Italian’s mistake.
Bayern Munich came into the game with a 1-0 lead due to Kingsley Coman’s winner in the first leg. Christophe Galtier’s PSG looked sloppy in the first leg till Kylian Mbappe’s introduction. However, they could not find an equaliser.
The second leg was a much more even affair. The away side played a much more dynamic midfield with Vitinha, Marco Verratti, Fabian Ruiz, and Lionel Messi constantly switching positions, shifting away from the rigid 4-4-2 in the first leg. They almost took the lead after a blunder from Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer. However, Mathias de Ligt cleared Vitinha’s shot off the line.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting gave the home side the lead in the 61st minute. The 33-year-old scored after the double act of Muller and Goretzka easily dispossessed Marco Verratti. The latter ended up with the ball and squared it to the ex-PSG striker, who slotted it home calmly. It was a fourth goal this season in the Champions League for him and the fourth assist for Leon Goretzka.
PSG came close with Sergio Ramos firing a bullet header from a corner, only to be denied by a great save. Bayern had several chances on the counter and finally scored in the 90th minute. Serge Gnabry finished superbly with his left foot after a perfect pass from Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo.
