Arguably one of the best games of the Premier League this season, Arsenal and Manchester United played their hearts out at the Emirates in a five-goal thriller. Mikel Arteta’s side once again proved why they are serious contenders to clinch this season’s league title. Arsenal beat Erik Ten Hag’s side 3-2 to go five points clear of Manchester City in the table.

Manchester United and Arsenal never fail to disappoint when it comes to a league fixture. After losing to the Red Devils 3-1 at Old Trafford, Arteta and his men did not give up until the last minute as they seized the winner in the dying moments of the game. Gunners‘ striker Eddie Nketiah scored a brace to seal all three points for the league leaders.

Today’s victory against the Manchester giants was crucial for Arsenal as they needed to put some distance between themselves and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Despite an optimistic start from Manchester United, Arsenal kept coming back into the game. The home side produced two close chances within the first two minutes of the game but it was Marcus Rashford who opened the score with a stunning strike.

Arsenal striker Nketiah leveled things just seven minutes after Rashford’s goal for United. Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead with a long-range strike in the second half. Though, they were quickly humbled by Lisandro Martinez‘s header to settle things once again. Ten Hag and his team were stunned late in the game after Nketiah scored a close-range goal to beat De Gea and seal the win in the 90th minute.

After today’s exciting fixture at Emirates, Arsenal leap five points away from reigning champions Manchester City with a game still in hand. Manchester United currently sits fourth in the Premier League table after their deafening loss today. They are level at points with rivals Newcastle United as both clubs have gained 39 points in 20 games. Manchester United is in a competitive race for the top 4 spots. They look forward to ending their trophy drought.

After today’s disappointing result, United will be facing Nottingham Forest on 26 January 2023 in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.
