With Argentina finally heading to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final after beating Croatia 3-0, various fans have made claims that the world cup could be rigged and wanted Lionel Messi to win the world cup after the Argentine took the 5th penalty in this tournament against Croatia. No other team has been awarded more penalties in the whole competition.
It looks like various fans have revolted against the number of penalties awarded to Argentina throughout the world cup. Even today, Julian Alvarez ran into the Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovich to concede the first goal of the semi-final. The referee pointed to the 12-yard spot immediately and the penalty was calmly converted by Lionel Messi himself.

He also became the player with the most appearances for Argentina with 24 World Cup matches played. Lionel Messi also equaled Maradona‘s assist tally (8 assists) for Argentina in the FIFA World Cup.
Argentina will now face the winner of France vs Morocco in the finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This can be a historical night as either Messi or Morocco would win their first world cup, or France would become the first nation to retain the title in 62 years since Brazil.
