Morocco crushed Portugal’s dream of lifting the trophy with a 1-0 victory in Qatar, making the Atlas Lions the first African and first Arab team to reach the World Cup semifinals. The players were extremely jubilant on-pitch celebrations after the final whistle for Morocco. Moroccan Winger Sofiane Boufal celebrated with his mother with utmost joy on their faces. The pair were spotted dancing, enjoying the historic moment.
When Sofiane Boufal was young, he witnessed his mother toil and go to work every day at 6 am. “She sacrificed her life for me. I had to turn pro for her,” he once said. In Qatar, hundreds of overjoyed fans went into a trance in green and red outside Al Thumama Stadium celebrating their country’s win, chanting slogans, banging on drums, and waving their national flag.
This year’s FIFA World Cup campaign has seen so many upsets thus far. Morocco’s win against Portugal was surely an upset for them. The Portuguese coach who left Cristiano Ronaldo out of the playing 11 squads is getting trolled for taking inexperienced players to the knockout stage, and the experience which cost them in the dying moments and also couldn’t help them to score during the start.
