In last weekend’s London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea, Declan Rice made the headlines after his performances for the club. Arsenal had paid a club record £105m for the English midfielder, who had been under constant media scrutiny from pundits and players as to whether such a heft price tag was justified for a player of his stature.
The 24-year-old player has since been on fire for the Gunners. He has been consistently dropping masterclass performances and being under the radar, justifying Mikel Arteta‘s belief in him. From a solid performance against Manchester City, which finally secured Arsenal’s first victory over them in years in the league.
He was crucial in driving back the club’s comeback against Chelsea on Saturday, who were set to upset their good run of form. Chelsea comfortably led the game with goals from Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk. However, it took only one instance for the entire game’s momentum to shift in Arsenal’s favor.
The keeper, Robert Sanchez, made a mistake by passing the ball from his goal to Rice, and he scored a beautiful first-time shot, bending into the corner of the plane. Shortly after, Leandro Trossard equalized for the Gunners with a pinpoint cross from Bukayo Saka. The game provided much relief to Arsenal fans as they maintained their good run of form in the league.

Declan Rice scored a goal that started a comeback for the Gunners in a game that saw them come back from the blemishes of a first league defeat to draw. Fans drew comparisons between Rice’s goal to English legend David Beckham as he scored a curling goal against Chelsea over the goalkeeper. The midfielder has been in top form and has constantly backed up his price tag with his performances.

As Arsenal continue to maintain a position above Manchester City, they will be looking to maintain their form and capitalize on it early in the season. After last season’s disappointment, the team has looked positively rejuvenated, and Arteta will be looking to keep on improving his tactics.
