Harry Kane joined German champions Bayern Munich in the summer. His $100 million fee was followed by spectacular performances for the club, both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. However, his very first game back in August featured a 3-0 loss in the DFL-Supercup final. Fans were quick to point out the ‘Kane curse’, blaming the English striker for Bayern’s unexpected loss.

His lack of silverware at Tottenham Hotspur has elicited harsh trolls on social media, with many believing that his move to Bayern was just to win trophies. However, a shock defeat in the DFB Pokal against third-division side Saarbrücken has brought the trolls back on social media. Kane was an unused substitute in an unexpected 2-1 loss.

Bayern went ahead early through a spectacular Thomas Müller strike. However, Thomas Tuchel’s side played into trouble as they were caught in possession at the back. Patrick Sontheimer finished the move into an empty net. Saarbrücken withstood the Bayern attack for the next 45 minutes before pouncing on the only opportunity they got.

An unexpected counter in the 96th minute was finished off by Marcel Gaus. The crowd erupted in cheers as the underdogs eliminated the tournament favorites and the defending Bundesliga champs.

Bayern Munich‘s unexpected elimination raised a lot of eyebrows in the footballing community. Even though their #9- Harry Kane- was an unused substitute in the game, he saw himself receive the majority of the blame and trolls for the elimination.

Another was quick to blame the manager for their failure. “Tuchel might go trophyless with Bayern this season,” read his comment. Some fans even went as far as to call the game rigged, claiming that Bayern could never lose a game like this.

One angry fan said, “Bayern always disappoint when you least expect them to.” Bayern now face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga in the season’s first Der Klassiker. The club are 2nd in the League and are perfect in their Champions League group.
