Chelsea and Liverpool went home with a point each after a hard-fought game at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea created the majority of chances, but poor execution and bad luck meant they couldn’t capitalise.
Mateo Kovacic was the first one guilty of missing a great chance. He went around Alisson, but the shot was cleared off the line by a sliding Ibrahima Konate. Kai Havertz and Joao Felix had chances to score, but some good defending from Liverpool kept the scorers level. Chelsea went ahead in the 25th minute after James lashed his effort past Alisson. However, the goal was disallowed due to Enzo Fernandez being in an offside position. Liverpool could have gone ahead late in the first half, but Kepa Arrizabalaga denied a fierce strike from Joe Gomez.
Kovacic missed a superb chance at the start of a second half as well. The Croatian sent his effort well over the bar after getting beyond the Liverpool defense and into the box. Havertz scored a couple of minutes later, after some great work from N’golo Kante. This goal was disallowed too due to a handball from the German. Both teams made several changes in the second half, but they failed to make a difference.

Chelsea remains 11th in the Premier League table after a torrid season. They sacked manager Graham Potter after they won just three of their 13 Premier League games since the start of 2023. They are nine points ahead of Crystal Palace in 12th and will look to move up the table. The Blues are just five points off a Conference League place.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is 8th after the draw, level on points with Brentford. The Reds are in contention for a Europa League spot, with sixth-placed Brighton only three points ahead. A good run of form could also see them compete for a Champions League spot, with Tottenham and Manchester United looking shaky.
Chelsea face Wolves at the Molinuex stadium in three days before taking on Real Madrid in a Champions League quarter-final first leg tie. Liverpool will hope to put a dent in Arsenal’s title challenge on Sunday at Anfield, before travelling to Leeds a week later.
