“His career with the national team is over”- Fans speculate consequences after another Argentine hits Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘SIUU’ in PL
Alcaraz is the second Argentinian to do the celebration after Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho.
Aaron Ramsdale gifted Southampton the lead after just 28 seconds of Arsenal‘s Premier League clash against Southampton at the Emirates on Friday. The goalkeeper passed the ball straight to Carlos Alcaraz, who took a touch and then whipped the ball past the England international to make it 1-0 to the Saints.
Alcaraz then pulled out a Cristiano Ronaldo ‘siiuuu’ celebration after netting his third Premier League goal of the season. Interestingly enough, Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho, who is Argentine as well, hit the same celebration whilst scoring in the FA Youth Cup final which earned him a call to the first team.
Ronaldo has faced Arsenal on 17 occasions during his professional career, boasting a record of eight wins, four draws and five defeats against them, while he has scored nine times and provided two assists. The Portuguese have won five, drawn four and lost four of his 13 Premier League meetings against the Gunners, scoring seven times and providing one assist, including three goals in his two meetings with Mikel Arteta’s side during the 2021-22 league campaign.
The former United man also scored his 800th career goal against Arsenal becoming the first-ever player to do so. The celebration looked for all the while to mock the Gunners who have drawn three consecutive matches and are vulnerable to throwing off their title hopes which Manchester City having two games in hand.
Southampton is dead last in the Premier League battling relegation three points below the safety zone. With six matches remaining, their survival is still possible. They face Bournemouth on Thursday with a crucial three points at stake with the same for Arsenal who faces title-challenging Manchester City on Wednesday.
Arsenal must beat title rivals Manchester City for the league title after drawing against Southampton
Mikel Arteta has told his Arsenal players they must win at rivals Manchester City if they are to maintain their hopes of winning the title. Arsenal’s chances of holding off Pep Guardiola’s men were dealt another huge blow on Friday night when they drew 3-3 with bottom-side Southampton. The Gunners have now gone three matches without a win with their lead over City five points, having played two games more ahead of Wednesday’s huge clash at the Etihad.
‘I cannot wait, these are the games you want to play. When everything is at stake you have to go there to win,’ Arteta said. ‘It is the beauty of this sport, you want to be in these positions. We will have an incredible trip to Manchester and we will prepare really well.’ Gabriel Jesus echoed his manager’s comments, telling his team-mates: ‘Now is the difficult moment, it is time now to stick together until the end.’
Jesus added: ‘It is not over, we are still five points clear. Manchester City has two games in hand but if we want to be champions we have to go there to win the game, that is all, we are still there, we are still fighting and we will fight until the end.’ Arsenal now has six matches left in the campaign to overturn their hopes for the league title.
