FC Barcelona has criticized Sevilla FC for their recent actions, which they consider unjust and inappropriate. This all started before the game on September 29th when Sevilla FC chose not to join a scheduled lunch with directors. Further, they refused to sit in the director’s box during the match.
The Nervionenses did this to protest against Barcelona‘s alleged involvement in the Negreira case. It’s claimed that the Catalan club paid Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira up to €7.3 million from 2001 to 2018, as reported in referee documents. Sevilla responded by releasing a statement expressing their outrage and condemning the actions of Barcelona’s former officials. They stated that they would not have any representation in the Montjuic stadium’s VIP box.
Since then, the Catalan giants have released a statement denouncing the actions of the Andalusian Club. The Statement read, “The Andalusian club has published a statement in which it shows its “indignation and condemnation for the practices carried out by former FC Barcelona directors named in the Negreira case.” They further claimed that the Negreira case was early into its legal proceedings.
The Negreira case has been labeled a case of bribery. So, if the club from Catalonia is found guilty, La Liga President, Javier Tebas believes FC Barcelona could face a possible points deduction. People involved in the case, like Josep Maria Bartomeu, could also find themselves being jailed if found guilty.

FC Barcelona claimed 3 points against Sevilla
With a backstory already written behind it, both sets of players stepped onto the ground at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in hopes of claiming three points for their club as FC Barcelona desperately needed a win after the club had drawn their previous game against a resilient Mallorca side. This game would also be Sergio Ramos‘ first game against Barcelona after returning to La Liga in the colors of Sevilla.
FC Barcelona dominated the ball as expected but was unable to capitalize up until the 76th minute of the game. Lamine Yamal headed down a beautiful cross by Ferran Torres at the edge of the six-yard box as Sergio Ramos attempted to block Yamal’s headed pass. However, Ramos fumbled, rolling the ball into the back of the net.
No doubt the Barca fans were jubilant. Moreover, with all the drama before the game, those 3 points must have felt special for the Blaugrana.
