FC Barcelona star Ferran Torres has captured the hearts of football fans with his heartfelt gesture on Sunday. The Spanish International dedicated his goal to injured teammate Gavi, who he also happens to share the locker room with at FC Barcelona. Torres captured hearts during Spain’s Euro Qualifier against Georgia when he raised Gavi’s jersey to the crowd after scoring.

Gavi and Ferran Torres are teammates, both at Spain and FC Barcelona. The Spain #11 and Gavi have been teammates at the club since the start of last season. Gavi has been a regular starter under Xavi Hernandez while Ferran has been a rotational player in the squad. Yesterday’s game saw Gavi pick up an unfortunate injury against Georgia in the 26th minute.

The internet reacts to Ferran Torres’ heartwarming gesture

Ferran Torres scored in the second half against Georgia in the UEFA Euro Qualifiers. His goal was not what made headlines, but rather, his decision to dedicate his goal to his injured teammate, Gavi. Many praised the player for his gesture while others showed their concern for the player and how his injury may negatively impact Barcelona’s season.

A fan commented, “Why was he even made to play this meaningless match,” clearly unimpressed at the trend of players getting injured during the international break. “All chances of Barcelona making a deep run in the UCL are gone after this injury,” said a fan, pointing out Gavi’s importance to the team.

“We’re finished,” added a devastated Barcelona fan. Several others offered their prayers for the injured youngster. A video of the player in crutches after the game has also surfaced. Initial impressions are that the player has torn his ACL, and will be out for several months.

However, there has been no official comment regarding the severity of his injury. Fabrizio Romano commented that Gavi’s injury is serious and that more tests will follow in the coming 24 hours.
