FIFA President makes a special request in the name of Pele to ‘every country in the world’

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has appealed to all the countries in the world to name at least one stadium in the loving memory of Brazilian legend and football icon Pele. The president was seen paying his homage to the legend at the Vila Belmiro stadium. Various high-profile individuals, including Infantino himself, attended the 24-hour wake.

FIFA organization named Pele as the greatest player of the 20th century. The Brazilian legend died after a long-fought battle against colon cancer at Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo. His family stayed alongside the 82-year-old legend in the final minutes of his life. There was a wave of sorry after football lost one of its greatest players.

Members of the South American and Brazilian football affiliations attended the memorial. Gianni Infantino paid their homage to Pele in front of his casket, which was kept in the middle of the home ground of Santos FC.

Pele was 16 years old when he made his debut for Santos. No one knew that this little kid from Brazil would have the biggest impact on World football. He is still the only footballer to have won 3 FIFA World Cups. Many fans often consider Pele the greatest player of all time. He received the award for Best player of the 20th century from FIFA.

The Brazilian forward was sensational for Santos, scoring more than 618 goals in just 636 appearances. Pele was loyal to a single club throughout his career as he kept bagging goals for 18 years at Santos. He later joined New York Cosmos American club and retired after two seasons.

Pele was undoubtedly one of the most influential sportspersons ever to exist. He had a major role to play in football even after retiring, as he was subjected to fame through numerous film and media projects surrounding the star. Pele also worked for social change as he was appointed as the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 1994. A true legend!
