With more matches being added to the schedule, it is still being determined where players will find a reprieve from the sport. It is anticipated that these alterations will be met with disapproval by clubs, players, and spectators. Unfortunately, modifications can only be made after the 2030 World Cup. On Friday, Gianni Infantino declared that the Club World Cup will be enhanced to include 32 teams in 2025. The competitionis currently only involves seven teams. It will be held every four years and is projected to bring in more money for the international sports organization.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is proposing changing how the Club World Cup is structured. Instead of having only the top teams from continental competitions and the hosts’ national champion compete for the title, he wants to hold the tournament in the same time slot as the Confederations Cup. This would give teams from all over the world a chance to compete for the trophy.

“There will be a club World Cup with 32 teams held every four years. And the first edition will be held in the summer of 2025. It will be in the slot of the Confederations Cup,” Infantino stated.

FIFA is anticipating receiving $11 billion in revenue over the four years from 2022 to 2026, not including the recently-proposed format for the 2025 Club World Cup. European clubs and FIFPRO, the global union for professional football players, have criticized this new competition design. British media outlets have reported that the clubs have refused FIFA’s suggestion to revamp the event.
