Mexican fans chanting derogatory slurs
Mexico squared off with Poland in their Group game opener of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Mexico team delivered a shock in the highly anticipated match, where Poland was expected to take home the victory. The game ended with a score of 0-0.
The game saw the Mexican fans chanting derogatory slurs, and now there may be reported repercussions. After such chants, FIFA is investigating the whole matter as they opened a case against them after Tuesday’s match. The fans chanted, disrespecting the Polish player Robert Lewandowski who unfortunately missed the penalty awarded to Poland in the later half of the game. However, FIFA did not give out the details of the chants; seemingly derogatory slurs were being used, which was unacceptable.
Football is a sacred sport, and nonetheless, are the players as well, especially at a level this high; playing in the FIFA World Cup that too while representing one’s country, one should never make or face such chants or gestures that are disrespectful—harming the primary agenda of the beautiful sport by disturbing the harmony amongst people belonging to different countries, religions, and beliefs.
According to multiple reports, the apex organization in Football has also opened an investigation against Ecuador for raising homophobic chants during the opening match of the FIFA World Cup against Qatar, which ended (2-0) on Sunday. These chants and other behavioral changes are required in the Footballing community; respect and loving all is what the motto teaches us, which must remain when this all ends.
Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 goes on amidst controversies
FIFA found itself in hot water after it gave Qatar the right to host the prestigious World Cup Qatar, which has a poor track record on human rights. Amidst protests already causing heat at the event, this investigation might be interpreted as another reason to rise against the laws that deprive people of free speech in the country.
If anyone is found by the Qatari officials with the sort of stuff that they have been warned against, their stash might get confiscated and the person might face imprisonment according to the rules. The laws in hindsight punch a hole right through the Footballing beliefs and motos. A few countries are tired already of the regular silencing by FIFA and are set to revolt.
