FIFA is currently facing a lot of pressure regarding the removal of Iran from the 2022 World Cup which is to be hosted in Qatar later this year and fans want that position to be handed over to Ukraine. Iran has been drawn into the group of England set to play them in their opening match to be held on November 21, alongside the United States and Wales in Group B.

A few days ago, the human rights group Open Stadiums had called on the world football’s governing body in order to ban Iran from the World Cup regarding the country’s treatment of women. After the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman who died while in police custody earlier this month, a widespread protest had taken place.

Iran also supported Russia in its ongoing invasion of Ukraine and was hugely criticized for it all over the world. The England government of Defence also claimed that Iran supplies Russia with uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), which in order has been used against targets throughout Ukraine.
