Memphis Depay got the Netherlands off to a good start, firing the ball into the goal from within the box. Just before the half-time whistle, Daley Blind made it 2-0 for the Netherlands, leaving the USA with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Haji Wright provided some hope for the American side, reducing the deficit to 1-2. Denzel Dumfries quickly put the game beyond doubt, though, netting his first goal of the tournament to make it 3-1. The US was unable to stage a comeback, and the game ended 1-3 in favor of the Netherlands.

The Netherlands will go on to the quarterfinals, facing either Argentina or Australia, depending on who wins the Round of 16 match later in the day. Unfortunately, this marks the end of the journey for the youthful and spirited United States team.
