Five people hospitalized after about 100 masked football fans raided a pub full of England supporters in Wembley
The incident took place at the the Greenman Pub and Hotel in Wembley
Ahead of England’s final game at the Nations League against Germany which was played at the Wembley Stadium, German fans raised havoc and a chaotic scene took place at the Greenman Pub and Hotel on Dagmar Avenue. A large group of men wearing masks and scarves went inside the pub’s beer garden and began assaulting England supporters and there were punches thrown between the fans of the two countries.
It was later revealed that the masked people were actually Germans dressed as English fans in order to get entry into the pub. Some of them were wearing England hats and had traveled over for Monday’s match at Wembley. Metropolitan Police also believe that masked people were from Germany and have also made four arrests.
How did German fans ruin the atmosphere before the football match?
A local habitat David Wilson-Turner told the Evening Standard about the incident, “We initially saw a group of people running through the car park in all black, with scarves and balaclavas covering their faces wearing England hats, before hearing shouting and [seeing England fans] running in all directions.”
He also added, “Hearing that some had weapons, people were then trying to get away from it, being scattered inside, round the back of the pub and across the beer garden, while others were trying to run towards them to get them away. It all happened very quickly, and in less than five minutes the Germans who had run towards the pub were gone.”
