Former Argentine boss compares Angel di Maria to Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona, calls him a great ‘role model’

Former Argentine manager Cesar Luis Menotti claimed Angel Di Maria should be on the list of the greatest in Argentine football history. Menotti was the manager of the 1978 Argentina National Team which won the first World Cup for Argentina.
In the latest interview with Súper Deportivo on Radio Villa Trinidad 97.9, Menotti talked about Di Maria’s impact on the National Team. He said, “He’s the player who deserves the same recognition as the great footballers. I put him on the same level as Kempes, Maradona, and Messi. For me, he’s the player who has represented like no one else Argentinian football in every place he has gone to.”
Menotti then concluded, “Wherever you go, Di Maria played there… those who understand soccer respect him in an incredible manner, and those who know him love him a lot. I was happier for him than for me. For me, he’s an example, as great of a role model as the best in history that you care to compare.“
Di Maria has been one of the key figures in the Argentina National team for the past few years. He has been integral to Argentina’s success in all the tournaments. Even in the 2022 World Cup final, Di Maria scored one and assisted one to keep Argentina in the hunt. It was Di Maria’s goal again in 2021 that won Argentina the Copa America against Brazil.
The former Real Madrid forward has played 132 matches for his country and has scored 29 goals for them. He also has 27 assists to his name. Di Maria has won the Olympic Gold medal, the Copa America trophy, and the World Cup with his national team.

Angel Di Maria is on his way to make a dream return to his boyhood club Benfica
Argentine attacker Angel Di Maria is set to make a dream return back to Benfica as a free agent this summer. He didn’t extend his stay at Juventus and has left the club as a free agent.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Di Maria is set to return to Benfica after leaving them back in 2010. It will be a free transfer as Di Maria is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus this summer. The contract is set to be for just one year which would end in 2024.
According to reports, the player only wanted to join the Portuguese club this summer. Reports suggest that the club is going to announce the signing of the player within the week. During his previous stint at the club, he played 121 matches scoring 15 goals and providing 28 assists.
