Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique wants Real Madrid to win the Champions League 2021-22 title

Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique wants Real Madrid to win the Champions League 2021-22 title

Luis Enrique has backed Real Madrid to beat Liverpool in the Champions League final. The Spaniard believes no club deserves the trophy more than any other club this season.

Real Madrid take on Liverpool in Paris later this month on May 29 for the Champions League trophy at Stade de France in Paris after it was forced to move there from St.Petersburg following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The La Liga giants made it to the final after beating PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City in the knockout stages, while the Reds got past Inter, Benfica, and Villarreal.

Luis Enrique was speaking to the press after declaring his Spanish team for an upcoming round of friendlies. Spain will be facing Portugal, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic twice between June 2 and June 12.

What did Luis Enrique say about Real Madrid at the press conference?

At the press conference, Enrique confirmed he was backing the side from his homeland. The Spanish national team manager said, “As I like to be fair if anyone deserves to win this Champions League, it’s Real Madrid.”

Luis Enrique also talked about Real Madrid’s forward Marco Asensio who has struggled for form under Carlo Ancelotti this season.

“I’ve seen what I’ve always seen. It’s true that in his team he’s not performing too much but it’s more important what they do here with us,” he said.

He could be the first to be surprised. Let’s not deceive ourselves, there are losses in his position, but that doesn’t mean he won’t come back. Opportunities are there to be taken.”

The former Barcelona manager also talked about Thiago Alcantara during the press conference. Talking about him, he said, “I think he’ll be out of the final but I don’t know. He’s limping, so it’s maybe not the best sign. The lower part of the body. I know what it is but don’t want to say.”

However, he later clarified and added:

“Thiago is not good, but we don’t know enough yet. He can walk, which is a good sign, but after some rest, we will see. I don’t want to talk now about it. Let us see. We want to wait until we know more about it and have confirmation.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool has recently said goodbye to their “legend” Divock Origi after he scored some of the most important goals in their history.
