Dani Alves will face trial on his sexual charges in Spain. The news has been confirmed by the Catalonia High Court. In January, he was accused of forcing himself upon a woman in the washroom of a nightclub situated in Barcelona. The player’s bail application has been rejected yet again after months of struggle by the lawyers. His appeal to have the trial in Spain, not Brazil, citing strict laws that could harm him, has been granted. But the trial date remains unknown.

Alves, known for his playing stints with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, has been in custody without bail due to the suspicion that he might try to escape the country. When first questioned, he denied having any knowledge of the woman prior to his arrest. However, he gave a different statement during questioning by investigators, claiming that he had relations with her but it was consensual.

If found guilty, the footballer could be jailed for 12 years. Despite facing heavy accusations, Alves has always maintained his innocence. In an interview with La Vanguardia, he stated that he has a “clear conscience” regarding the events.

The prosecutors allege that after getting knocked out by Croatia in the World Cup with Brazil, Dani Alves came to Barcelona. He frequently visits the city as he lived there for numerous years. He had gone to a party at a nightclub. That’s where the allegations come from. The woman says that she was taken forcefully to the bathroom. The crime was perpetrated there. If this is true, it could be calamitous to the community as Alves is considered a club legend.

In a different part of the world, a former teammate of Dani Alves, Robinho is being charged with the same crime. His incident occurred during his time in Italy. The decision for that is said to come out on August 2 by the high court. It is about the Italian court’s willingness of a translation of the case to Portuguese. This will help the authorities in Brazil to look into it.

However, the Italian authorities wish for the 39-year-old Robinho to serve his sentence in the European country where he committed the crime. But the Brazilian is acting as a roadblock it does not extradite its nationals.

Robinho resides in Santos, near Sao Paulo. He has given his passport to Brazilian authorities in March. His lawyers say that the relationship was consensual. Bizarrely, they claim that five of his friends had similar interactions with the young woman at a bar.
