Former Chelsea player ‘trapped in China’ after getting his transfer blocked

Oscar, a former Chelsea midfielder, is allegedly “stuck in China” when Shanghai Port FC obstructed his desired return to Brazil. Since January 2017, Oscar has been playing in the Far East. He was one of many famous athletes drawn to the Chinese Super League by its enormous financial rewards.
Some of the well-known athletes that traveled to play in the CSL included Paulinho, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Hulk, Renato Augusto, Carlos Tevez, and Axel Witsel. Five and a half years later, Oscar has made more than £100 million in China and scored 51 goals across all competitions after completing a £60 million switch at the age of 25.
Although he was about to join Flamengo, he also won the league in 2018. Oscar was eager to transfer, where he would be reunited with fellow countrymen David Luiz and Filipe Luis, and had already posed in the team’s uniform.
Shanghai SIPG rejected to the arrangement
According to The Mirror, Oscar reached an agreement with Flamengo and left for his native Brazil after receiving clearance to do so for personal matters. But his team, formerly known as Shanghai SIPG, disapproved of the agreement and declined to sign the required documents. Oscar has been stuck in limbo despite craving a new challenge because not even a loan agreement was allowed.
“I would like to thank everyone for the affection and messages received in the last month, especially from all Flamengo fans,” Oscar wrote on social media. I appreciate the interest of Flamengo and the fans, but it was not possible to do so at that moment. I wish the club the best of luck and all the friends I have there for the rest of this season. Thank you all!”
Oscar faced a great deal of backlash when he decided to relocate to China; many believed that his decision was driven by a desire for financial gain. At the time, Antonio Conte, his own manager, remarked bluntly that “passion must come before money.”
Oscar, who was recently linked with a move to Barcelona, justified his decision and said the offer was one he could not turn down. According to The Guardian, Oscar stated that “Every football player, or every person who works, wants to earn money to help their families.” He continued saying that “I came from a social background in Brazil that is very poor. We didn’t have anything. This is the fruit of my work and when I earn this, it is because I conquered it. The same way I came here, I will be able to return to Europe. Whatever decision I make, somebody will talk good or bad about it.“
