Two-time Ballon d’Or winner and former Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan had recently been in the headlines for his comments. The English legend said he doesn’t like female footballers and pundits when they give their opinions on the men’s game since they are two different sports.

Many fans came in his support, agreeing with him. However, former Lioness Lianne Sanderson had a different opinion, as she said he was ‘irrelevant.’ Many said that the hypocrisy lies in her response. She paid heed to an ‘irrelevant’ man by calling him ‘misogynistic’ for expressing his opinion.

Many former footballers, including Joey Barton, highly backed the opinion. Keegan addressed the differences in physicality, tempo, and tactics between the two formats of the game. He even highlighted that it was a ‘problem’ with players having not gone through ‘the same experience’ of the men’s game to comment and make a living by bluffing people.

“I won’t be bringing light to misogyny. He’s irrelevant. But I would absolutely ‘Love’ it if he would ‘Shut up’! Those comments are not needed,” wrote Sanderson in her tweet. It’s amusing how Sanderson thinks she can ask him to ‘shut up’ through her tweet. “While she hardly has any of the same accolades to get her name compared to Keegan in the same sentence, apart from controversy,” a comment under her tweet read.

Fans berated Sanderson, who took offense to the comments as she tried hard to maintain her relevance through her response. Kevin Keegan is a well-respected football figure who won back-to-back Ballon d’Ors in 1978 and 1979.

Kevin Keegan’s illustrious time at Manchester City

Manchester City were in deep trouble at the beginning of the new millennium as they had to sack Joe Royle after their relegation to the Championship. The City fans were anxious until the club announced Kevin Keegan to be at the helm of Maine Road.

Keegan’s teams were known for playing attractive attacking football. The Cityzens beamed with excitement to make a return to top-flight football. They did so under the two-time Ballon d’Or winner as he helped the club achieve immediate promotion, where the club has remained since. ‘The Keegan Years’ will serve as a reminder of the power shift in the history of Manchester City. He also propelled the club into Europe.

City finished eight under him. Players like Stuart Pierce and Shaun Goater find some of the best form of their lives under him. They would, however, go 14 games without a win in the new level. Nonetheless, he set the foundation for an era of domination that was to come for Manchester United‘s ‘noisy neighbors’. His time lives through in the hearts of the other side of Manchester, as he is still fondly remembered by the club and its fans.
