Former Manchester United star might face contempt of court charge over his social media post supporting Ryan Giggs during his trial: Reports
Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs for Manchester United
The former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs had been trialed in court for being accused of domestic violence. The case was filed by his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville. The case was dismissed on Wednesday after they could not find any verdict on any of the charges. But his former co-player Gary Nevile might face a contempt of court charge.
The reason for this referral to the Attorney General is because of the post he posted through his social media handles during Ryan Giggs’s trial. Neville’s lawyer tried to convince the media by giving the real interpretation of the post and that he meant about Glazer’s family and Manchester United and not Giggs’s trial.
According to Contempt of Court Law, any information being leaked that may create substantial risk is a punishable and criminal offense. The Judge also gave an explanation, “Given the author is a person with a high public profile and his social media account has 1.5 million followers, it could be seen to be an attempt to influence ongoing criminal proceedings and could be contempt of court.”
Ryan Giggs was on a trial for more than four weeks and the post was released during that timeline. The trial had been hard on him and he was bombarded with criticisms everywhere for behaving unethically to women. And now Gary Neville has also got into trouble due to his words which he should have been careful about before posing on a public platform.
