Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs kicked ex-girlfriend out of hotel room while she was naked: Reports
Ryan Giggs allegedly headbutted his girlfriend while being naked as she tried to escape from their “toxic” relationship after discovering he was cheating on her, a court heard.
The jury was informed on the first day of the former Manchester United star’s trial that there was “a much uglier and more sinister side to his character” than the one “idolised by fans” and that Giggs had subjected Kate Greville, 36, to a “litany of abuse, both physical and psychological.”
Between August 2017 and November 2020, the 48-year-old is alleged to have engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour toward his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville. He is accused of assaulting Ms. Greville and inflicting actual bodily harm on her at his home in November 2020. He is also accused of assaulting Emma, Ms. Greville’s younger sister, during the same alleged incident. Giggs rejects all accusations.
Giggs was “idolised by fans,” but “there was, we say, a much uglier and more sinister side to his character — a private life that involved a litany of abuse,” prosecutor Peter Wright QC said after a jury of seven women and five men was sworn in at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
Mr. Wright added: “The systematic and at times violent abuse of a woman is what this case is all about, while all the time preying on her vulnerabilities for his own gratification.” The prosecutor said that “abusive acts of violence” were “interspersed with acts of kindness or contrition calculated to rekindle her affection or to forgive his excesses” and that meant “the relationship endured and the cycle continued.”
Manchester United legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Gary Neville will also appear on trial this week
Sir Alex Ferguson and Gary Neville will appear “in some way” during the trial, which is scheduled to last two weeks but may extend into a third, according to information provided to the jury earlier by Mr. Daw.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin in January, but it was delayed due to a backlog brought on by the pandemic. Then, a few days prior to it beginning, there were worries that there would be yet another delay due to the discovery of asbestos traces in the Manchester Crown Court basement.
While tests were being conducted at Manchester Crown Court, according to Judge Manley, the hearing would start at Minshull Street Court with the intention of moving back to Manchester Crown Court tomorrow.
