In the recent Africa Cup of Nations fixture, Burkina Faso faced Mauritania. The countries lifted down their team with their numbers listed and then their names. Out of all the names listed, one caught the attention of fans. It was of former Premier League star, Aboubakar Kamara, who uniquely listed his name. He listed his initials and added the number 47, making it AK47.
Aboubakar Kamara previously played for Fulham for four years and left in 2021. He had started off his career at Monaco but only managed two appearances. After a successful stint at Amiens, he left for London to join Fulham.
In his first season with Fulham, he helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2018. He first came into the spotlight after he took a penalty from teammate Aleksander Mitrovic. He argued with the Serbian before taking the penalty and missing it. Then Fulham manager, Claudio Ranieri, called out Kamara publicly and said the player had no respect for his manager, teammates, and club.
He kept playing for the club but was then suspended. He had a physical altercation with Mitrovic and was arrested. Kamara was loaned out to Yeni Malatyaspor and Dijon before finally leaving Fulham for Greek club Aris. He currently plays for Emirati club Al-Jazira.
The player added the number 47 to his initials as his nickname. All of his social media handles have the number added as well. Funnily, his shirt number is 27, not 47. He did wear the number for Fulham.
Fans can’t stop laughing at Aboukara Kamar’s nickname
Aboukara Kamara started for Mauritania but was taken off in the 28th minute. The game was dominated by Burkina Faso. Both sides struggled to score but Burkina finally got a penalty in the 96th minute of the game. Aston Villa number 9, Bertrand Traore, scored the winning goal.
When fans first saw the lineups put up by Actu Foot Afrique, many fans found “AK47’ hilarious. It was only after some time that they realized it was the former Premier League star. All joked about how dangerous the player must be due to his name, while others just found it funny how someone would name their son “AK47”.
Here are some of the fans’ reactions
Mauritania will next play against Angola on the 20th of January. Their final match of the AFCON will be against Algeria. As of now, they are at the bottom of their group.
