Former Real Madrid players Marcelo, Isco and Gareth Bale added to legends section of the club’s website
Legends are not always honoured in the way they deserve. Johan Cruyff, Ajax’s all-time great, famously retired with long-time rivals Feyenoord, Andrea Pirlo was almost forced out of AC Milan, and even Iker Casillas left Real Madrid through the back door.
Fortunately, players who have helped clubs win trophies and live magical moments are sometimes recognised, and Los Blancos have just honoured three of their modern icons Marcelo, Isco, and Gareth Bale.
All three have been added to the Leyendas de Fútbol aka Football Legends section of the club’s website, where they are now listed alongside other Merengues greats such as Di Stefano, Raul, Zinedine Zidane, and others.
Isco’s inclusion has been a point of debate among the Real Madrid fanbase
Isco is possibly the most contentious of the additions. After struggling for minutes at Valencia, he moved to Malaga, where he had a breakthrough season in 2012-13, leading the Andalusian club to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Isco joined Real Madrid in 2013, but had to compete for a starting spot and was accused of being inconsistent. However, when he was at his best, he drew comparisons to Zinedine Zidane, was an important part of the team, and helped Real Madrid win three La Ligas and four Champions Leagues.
Gareth Bale had a love-hate relationship with the Real Madrid faithful
Gareth Bale’s importance in Real Madrid history cannot be overstated. Bale has contributed to the history of the club and will live on in the memory of Madrid with his various memorable goals, particularly in the finals.
“It is natural for every fan to notice this “, as Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti put it in words when asked about Bale’s impending departure from Los Blancos. Bale is a Real Madrid legend who has won five Champions Leagues while at the club. He has scored many iconic and important goals for the club and is a true club legend.
Marcelo is the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history winning 25 trophies in 16 years
In the case of Marcelo, he is not just another of the many great players and legends who have donned the storied white shirt, but the most decorated player in Real Madrid history, having won 25 trophies.
Marcelo joined Real Madrid from his youth club Fluminense in 2007 and went on to become one of the club’s most consistent and best performers. There is no doubt that Marcelo is a part of Real Madrid history after 544 matches in all competitions, 40 goals scored, 103 assists provided, six LaLigas, two Copa del Reys, and five Champions League.
