Barack Obama pens emotional note on Pele's death
The death of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, aka Pele, has left the football world in shock and the whole world. Including many big names in the world, former United States President Barack Obama also sent a message of condolence to the Brazilian family.
Obama penned an emotional note for Pele and a picture on Twitter. He wrote, “Pele was one of the best to play the beautiful game and one of the most recognized athletes in the world. In addition, he understood the power of sports to bring people together. Our thoughts are with his family and all who loved and admired him.“
In 2019, Barack Obama went to Brazil, where he met the football legend in Sao Paulo. The 3-time FIFA World Cup champion posted a picture on his social media with Obama with a heartfelt caption. Pele wrote, “I met with Barack Obama. We talked about how to work together to make the world better. Happy to be with him on the same team,”.
Premier League clubs pay tribute to Brazil legend Pele
The Premier League and English Football League clubs will wear black armbands to honor the great footballer. Along with that, the players will also hold a minute’s applause for the 3-time World champion.
“In tribute to Pele, Premier League clubs will remember his contribution to football at matches taking place from Friday 30 December-Sunday 1 January (Matchweek 18) by holding a minute’s applause prior to kick-offs. Players and match officials will wear black armbands,” the league said in a statement.
Coming to the EFL, the official statement revealed that it EFL would hold a minute’s applause before EFL fixtures on Friday and on January 1 and 2. “In memory of the life of Pelé, there will be a minute`s applause before EFL fixtures today and on 1 and 2 January, while players will wear black armbands,” it said.
Pele won 1958, 1962, and 1970 FIFA World Cups. The Brazilian also won numerous trophies in his club and international career. Talking about FIFA World Cups, Pele scored 12 goals in 14 matches. He scored 77 goals in 92 games and is the top scorer for Brazil. Indeed, the respect shown to Pele and his family is worth it from the football world.
