“A tough challenge,” Frank Lampard turns emotional while explaining his topsy-turvy journey at Chelsea & Everton

In a recent podcast, former Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard talked about his career as a manager, mentioning his tenures at the Premier League clubs Chelsea and Everton. Lampard expressed his disappointment at getting sacked by Chelsea mid-season in January 2021 but acknowledged the club’s reasoning for doing so. He also mentioned his efforts and contribution to keep Everton out of the relegation zone in the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Lampard was sacked by Chelsea in January 2021, after a series of poor outcomes and deteriorating game performances. The club had won just two of the last eleven games under his management, and they were situated in ninth position in the Premier League rankings.

In the interview, Lampard declared that he was very “disappointed” to be sacked, but that he understood Chelsea’s decision.

“I felt like I was doing a good job, and I was really enjoying it,” he said. “But I understand the club’s decision. They wanted to go in a different direction, and I respect that.”

Lampard also spoke about the circumstantial disturbances that led to his sacking. He said that he was told of the decision by Chelsea’s club owner, Roman Abramovich, in a phone call.

“It was a difficult conversation,” Lampard said. “But I understood where Roman was coming from. He wanted to change things, and I respect that.”

After being fired from Chelsea, Lampard soon was appointed as the manager of Everton in January 2022. The team was struggling to stay in the Premier League at that time, but Lampard recovered them from relegation.

During the interview, Lampard expressed his affirmative feelings about his run at Everton.

He stated, “I really liked my experience at Everton. It was a demanding task, but we succeeded in maintaining our position, which was a remarkable accomplishment. I take pride in our achievements.”

Lampard also discussed the challenges he faced at Everton. He mentioned that the club encountered a challenging situation at times, upon his arrival and that he had to provide considerable effort to initiate a turnaround in game and tactics.

Lampard remarked, “It was quite a challenge, but I found it enjoyable. I take pride in what we were able to accomplish.”

Lampard is currently in the absence of any club but is keen to get back to management again. “I’m excited about my next career phase,” he stated. “I’m determined to win trophies and believe I can.” Lampard expressed straightforwardness about managing any club but prefers to stay in the Premier League. “Managing at the highest level is my aim,” he added. “Being in the Premier League is my goal.”
