Gary Lineker reveals that he apologized to Kyle Walker for a post he made back in 2017 about the player. It was due to Walker’s transfer to Manchester City for a fee of £53m from Tottenham Hotspur. Linkeker narrated the incident on a recent episode of his podcast, The Rest is Football.

The former England player discussed this with his podcast partners, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards. Revealing himself to be a bit of a Spurs fan, Lineker was disappointed that the right-back had exited the club. He then posted something and wrote,“What a player, imagine how much they’d have had to pay if he could cross the ball.”

Gary Lineker also revealed that he has already apologized to the player for the post when he hosted an event for Vincent Kompany’s charity. Kyle Walker’s career blew up once he joined the club. Since his arrival, City has won five Premier League titles, multiple domestic trophies, and a Champions League title, which was part of a historic treble season.

The English full-back also has 78 caps for the national side and, at 33, does not seem to be slowing down. Many fans and pundits still regard him to be the best right-back in the country and want him as the main starter for England over Trent Alexander Arnold and Reece James. It’s fair to say Gary Lineker’s apology was warranted.

Before Manchester City came calling, Kyle Walker had played for six different clubs and even had stints in the Championship. Starting his career at Sheffield United, he had an electric pace down the sides. Even though the player could be caught out of position, his pace allowed him to reach the defense in time.

Since then, the player has only gone from strength to strength and secured a move to Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent his next 8 years. Manchester City purchased the fullback in 2017 to replace an aging Pablo Zabaleta, 32. Many couldn’t believe the price the club had paid for the player.

Looking back at the price now, it might even seem like a bargain. Touted by many as the best right-back in the world and in England’s history, Kyle Walker has been an immense signing in the Pep Guardiola era. Kyle Walker’s tenure at Manchester City may come to an end as his contract expires in 2024.

Gareth Southgate revealed that he stopped Walker from retiring on two different occasions. With one goal and one assist during this International break, fans can see why Southgate did not want the player to retire.
