American politician, George Santos was widely mocked for his statement about former USWNT player, Megan Rapinoe. George Santos commented on Rapinoe’s statement of questioning God’s existence which was met with people reminding him of his misdoings.
In a post-match press conference after the NWSL Championship game, Megan Rapinoe declared that she’s not a religious person, and she suggested that her torn Achilles injury, suffered within 3 minutes of the game, could be seen as proof that there isn’t a higher power.
George Santos responded to the statement on ‘X’ in which he claimed that ‘woke’ Megan Rapinoe:
Believes there is no God since she was injured while kicking a soccer ball. Please. There is a God and he loves you, regardless of how much you hate Him.
Yet, the US public didn’t buy into the politicians’ moral high ground. George Santos, facing serious charges like fraud and money laundering, wasn’t given the green light by the public to preach about the situation. Despite Megan Rapinoe’s remarks going unnoticed, Santos faced backlash, with many labeling him a hypocrite for his statements.
While Megan Rapinoe remains a villain to the right-wing Americans, to be called ‘woke’ and berated by a politician who himself has been charged with several cases, was not accepted by the public.
