Gerard Pique was unfazed by the comments made by La Liga president Javier Tebas about King’s League back in January. The La Liga president compared Gerard Pique‘s brainchild with a “circus” that has no comparison to the ginormous football industry.
Six months later, Pique replied to the comments in an interview. The president of the league said, “I wasn’t bothered when Javier Tebas called the Kings League a circus. On the contrary, it was great for us. We made a joke and a show out of it.” Pique’s league has seen a steady growth in terms of star power as well as business in the past couple of years.
Pique had compared himself with Javier Tebas as both of them obtain the same position in their respective organisations, albeit Pique’s being in its infancy. However, Tebas was not a fan or the comparison that Pique made. He said, “This is as if you compare that if Pasalabra can be a competitor of the League. The only thing that seems to be that it is played with a ball and that goals must be scored. We’ll see how much we talk about the Kings League.” “I like it as a circus, but it is not comparable to the football industry.”
When Gerard Pique retired from professional football in 2022, it was said to be because of a special project he wanted to concentrate on. The Kings League was introduced in November of the same year. Since then, many big-name former players like Andrea Pirlo, Sergio Aguero, Iker Casillas, Javier Hernandez and Ronaldinho have played in the league. It is gaining popularity every passing day and looks set to stay in the future.
