Shakira has once again broken another record with her music. Her song “TQG”, which she made in collaboration with Karol G, became an instant hit when it was released. The video of this song now has more than 700 million views on YouTube. It is the first music video to achieve the feat this year. The song was released on 24th February.
It came right after the success of Shakira’s collaboration with BZRP which became one of the most popular hits of 2022. Similar to the song with the Argentina record producer, TQG’s meaning takes inspiration from the Colombian singer’s life. The song is about being dumped by someone for another person. But their life becomes better after that while the other person realizes that they made a mistake. It came after the singer’s split with Gerard Pique.
Shakira and Gerard Pique dated for 11 years after meeting in 2010. They were both involved in the official song of that year’s FIFA World Cup. ‘Waka Waka’ became a classic taking the singer’s career to a new level. She started dating the former Barcelona defender in 2011. They had a happy relationship resulting in two kids, Milan and Sasha. However, things started to get awry in 2022. Pique was caught cheating with his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti.
In a statement, they announced that they were no longer a couple. After an amicable agreement, Shakira moved to Miami with the children. Pique stayed back in Barcelona with Clara Chia. TQG also makes it clear that a reconciliation with Gerard Pique is not on the cards for her.
Shakira’s career post split
Post their split, Gerard Pique and Shakira have been involved in a constant battle with each other. They have taken numerous digs at each other, attempting to drag each other’s name into the mud. Shakira has rejuvenated her career through this as she has made several songs about this topic. She has been a trending topic in the media since then.
Appearances in news interviews, fashion shows, and sports events have also helped this. Her career had become stagnant just before the split. After that, she dropped her song with BZRP which changed the game.
The lyrics heavily referenced Gerard Pique and Clara Chia both as she sought to earn public support. It became a massive hit ruling music charts for many weeks around the world. She has not looked back since then, creating hits one after another.
