“Golden generation my a**” – Twitter reacts as Morocco stuns star-studded Belgium at 2022 FIFA World Cup

On Sunday at Al Thumama Stadium, Morocco defeated Belgium 2-0 in World Cup group game thanks to an outstanding second-half effort. With a win, Roberto Martinez’s squad would have joined France as the second team to secure a spot in the knockout round, but the Red Devils came up short.

After Hakim Ziyech’s free kick from the first half was ruled to be offside, the same strategy paid off in the second half as Abdelhamid Sabiri set Morocco on track for just their third victory in World Cup history. After Ziyech’s excellent performance, the victory was subsequently assured in the game’s closing moments when Zakaria Aboukhlal smashed home from close range.

Belgium now have to defeat Croatia in their final group game after disappointing performance against Morocco. Twitter were quick to point out the difference in stature between both teams as trolled the Red Devils for their title as the “Golden Generation” of national squads.
